Foreign aid and judicial autonomy

Abstract Foreign aid donors increasingly embrace judicial autonomy as an important component of advancing democracy and promoting investment abroad. Recipient governments also recognize the importance reform for improving climate at home. However, developing countries often lack necessary state capacity that would enable them to implement these reforms. We argue recipient undertake reforms on their own turn donors, who readily assist in via targeted governance interventions. At same time, we suggest external assistance matters less recipients are able by themselves. employ instrumental variable model test this argument a global sample aid-eligible countries.
